First, I have to agree with all the 5 star reviews. This is one absolutely fantastic piece of work. Now the hit: the book is advertised as an atlas and I guess that must be the reason the book is huge in dimensions, just as are most atlases. So why are the included maps so small? I have not found one map that takes up even maybe one-half of a page, and most are a small fraction of the 13X9.5 inch page size. This “atlas†size could have been much smaller (but thicker). As it is now, it is almost impossible to hold this book and read it. Only reason it gets 3 stars.
A different kind of atlas from what I am used to. More words than maps; and there are plenty of maps. Outstanding work of scholarship. This is a reference book that you can pick up and just start reading anywhere.
Everyone who studies the Scriptures should have this lovely atlas! All kinds of other helpful illustrations, charts and documentation. It gives such significant context to the geography of the Bible lands, that you're honestly handicapped without it.
If you are looking for an atlas for helping in your study of the Bible - this is it. (If you are not looking you should think about it!) The maps are excellent, but they are only a part of the contents of this fine reference. There is a wealth of cultural and language information contained along side wonderful insight into Biblical history as revealed in the geography of the Scripture. The authors obviously have a passion for their subject matter and it shows in the outstanding quality of this work. The publisher has presented the work in a wonderful format and the book is as beautiful as it is thorough in scholarship. "The Sacred Bridge" is a must for the serious student of Scripture and even more so for the Bible teacher. The detail and quality of the maps and accompanying text are excellent and understandable to a layperson like me. But it is expensive so probably only serious students would buy this book in addition to the scholars.
Very informative, nice maps, the best I've seen of its kind
I have bought 3 of these books. They are expensive but well worth the cost. For any serious student of the Bible and its archeological footprint, this book is an excellent resource. The maps are wonderful, and the research fantastic.
Great resource! It's a Bible commentary, archaeology reference, and atlas rolled into one volume.
